Before you install
You need:
- Microsoft Edge on desktop (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
- A YouTube account you are signed in to.
- Permission to install Chrome Web Store extensions enabled in Edge (this is the default).
Enable Chrome Web Store extensions in Edge (if needed)
Edge supports both its own Microsoft Edge Add-ons store and the Chrome Web Store. FolderTube is published on the Chrome Web Store, which Edge supports natively. The first time you install a Chrome Web Store extension, Edge prompts you to allow extensions from other stores — click the 'Allow extensions from other stores' button when prompted.
Install FolderTube on Edge
- Open the FolderTube listing on the Chrome Web Store in Edge.
- If this is your first Chrome Web Store extension on Edge, Edge will prompt you at the top of the page. Click 'Allow extensions from other stores'.
- Click 'Add to Chrome' on the FolderTube page (Edge will still say 'Add to Chrome' — this works fine on Edge).
- Confirm the permissions in the Edge dialog.
- The extension installs and is visible in Edge's toolbar.
Set up FolderTube on YouTube
- Open youtube.com in Edge and sign in if you are not already.
- Click the purple FolderTube button in the top-right of the YouTube page. This opens the FolderTube sidebar.
- Press the sync subscriptions button to import every channel you follow.
- Create folders for the categories you want — Tech, Music, Cooking, anything.
- Drag channels into your folders. A channel can live in multiple folders.
Add real folders to YouTube
FolderTube is free to install. Drag your subscriptions into folders and finally find what you actually want to watch.
Add to ChromeCommon Edge setup issues
Edge does not show the 'Allow extensions from other stores' prompt
Go to edge://extensions/ and toggle 'Allow extensions from other stores' on. The Chrome Web Store should then let you install FolderTube.
The purple button does not appear on YouTube
Refresh youtube.com after installing. If it still does not appear, check that the extension is enabled in edge://extensions and that no other YouTube-modifying extension is blocking it.
Sync does not pull all subscriptions
Make sure you are signed in to the right Google account on YouTube. The sync uses the YouTube account currently signed in, not anything tied to your Microsoft account.
Pricing on Edge
Pricing is identical to Chrome. Free plan: unlimited top-level folders, 30 Mark-as-Watched videos per month, 3 channel-video searches per day. Premium: subfolders, custom colors, unlimited Mark as Watched, unlimited channel video search — $2.99/month, $19/year, or $39 lifetime.
